Change concerning submission of applications for work permits

FO1: First time applicants should always apply from their home country and await the answer there. If granted, the foreigner can start working in the Faroes immediately after arrival. This is the main rule.

For some years the Danish immigration authorities and the local police have allowed these applicants to submit their applications here e.g.during holidays, but this procedure has now been stopped. Instead the main rule is to be followed.

The only exceptions to the main rule are FO1-applications for sportsvisa and FO/AR8-notifications from EU-citizens.

FO/FA1: Spouses of Faroese/Nordic citizens, applying for a family reunification permit for the first time, can still ask the local police for permission to wait here for response to the application. However, having asked for this exception they must not work before a permit has been granted.
